WHAT ARE ANTI-WRINKLE INJECTIONS?

Anti-wrinkle injections also known as Botox® contain a purified protein extracted from Clostridium Botulinum bacteria, which is used for cosmetic purposes to smooth out any unwanted lines and wrinkles. Botox® (botulinum toxin) is a prescription-only medication and is therefore prescribed specifically for you by our doctor. 

HOW DOES IT WORK?

Due to age and repeated muscle movements, the collagen in our skin starts to wear away, which causes the skin to crease and form lines and wrinkles. Botulinum toxin is injected to the muscle, to prevent contraction, which stops lines and wrinkles forming. It can also soften any existing lines, which restores a more youthful appearance. Botulinum toxin injections are commonly used in the upper face to treat forehead lines, frown lines and crows feet. However they can also be used for other areas, as well as treating jaw slimming and excessive sweating – see section on ‘body treatments’.

HOW IS THE TREATMENT
ADMINISTERED?

The treatment involves using a very fine needle to inject the botulinum toxin into the relevant areas, which takes seconds-minutes. It is a virtually painless treatment – at most you will feel a mild sting. It can take 3-10 days for the wanted effects to appear and results last 3-4 months on average. Repeat treatments are advised every 3-4 months for maintenance for facial areas. 

ARE THERE ANY SIDE EFFECTS?

This is a very safe procedure with minimal side effects such as mild redness at the injection points, which usually settles within an hour. Very rarely you may experience some slight bruising at the site of the botulinum toxin injection, otherwise usually there are no visible signs post treatment. There is no recovery time, therefore you can resume your normal activities immediately.

  • WHAT IS THE BEST AGE TO START ANTI WRINKLE INJECTIONS?

    The best time to consider treatment is when you begin to notice dynamic lines and wrinkles appearing. This is when they appear on movement only. This can vary from person to person, some as young as early twenties depending on a variety of factors such as genetics, stress, smoking, sun exposure etc. The younger you start treatment, the better the results. Once the lines are deep and appear at rest, anti-wrinkle injections will only soften them and this is when other treatments such as dermal fillers may be required. It is therefore important to address these lines early on instead of waiting for them to progress and appear at rest. We strongly advise anti-wrinkle injections for prevention– to stop these lines and wrinkles forming. Remember, prevention is better than cure.
