PCOS LASER HAIR REMOVAL TREATMENT

Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) is a hormonal disorder that affects many women worldwide. One of the common symptoms of PCOS is hirsutism, which refers to excessive hair growth in areas typically seen in males, such as the face, chest, and abdomen. This condition can cause distress and reduced self-confidence for affected individuals. Thankfully, advancements in laser technology, particularly SPLENDOR X by Lumenis, have provided an effective solution for managing unwanted hair growth associated with PCOS.

Laser hair removal is a non-invasive procedure that utilises concentrated light energy to target and damage hair follicles, inhibiting their ability to regrow hair. It is an increasingly popular method for removing unwanted hair as it offers long-lasting results with minimal discomfort compared to traditional methods like shaving, waxing, or plucking.

INTRODUCING SPLENDOR X

SPLENDOR X is an innovative and advanced laser hair removal system developed by Lumenis, a renowned leader in the medical aesthetic industry. This cutting-edge device combines two distinct laser wavelengths, Alexandrite (755 nm) and Nd:YAG (1064 nm), in a single platform. The dual wavelengths allow for efficient and customisable treatment, making it suitable for various skin types and hair colours.

The Alexandrite wavelength is effective for lighter skin types, while the Nd:YAG wavelength is ideal for darker skin tones. The combination of these two wavelengths in SPLENDOR X ensures greater versatility and safety for a wide range of patients, including those with PCOS.

HOW LASER HAIR REMOVAL FOR PCOS WORKS?

The laser emits a concentrated beam of light that is preferentially absorbed by the pigment (melanin) in the hair follicles. This absorbed energy is then converted into heat, effectively damaging the follicles and inhibiting their ability to produce new hair.

The unique feature of SPLENDOR X lies in its built-in cooling technology, which minimises discomfort during the procedure and protects the surrounding skin from potential damage. This cooling mechanism ensures a comfortable experience for patients with sensitive skin or those undergoing treatment for PCOS-related hirsutism.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • WHAT MAKES SPLENDOR X BETTER THAN OTHER DEVICES?

It is the only device in the world to use the BLENDX technology, which uses a combination of two wavelengths to provide the best results. SPLENDOR X can treat any skin type, even tanned skin! We are confident that the Splendor X is the best laser hair removal machine available today,

Not sure what your skin type is? Use our Fitzpatrick scale below:

Type 1: always burns, never tans (pale, freckles).

Type 2: usually burns, minimal tanning.

Type 3: sometimes burns mildly, tans uniformly.

Type 4: burns minimally, always tans well (moderate brown).

Type 5: very rarely burns, tans very easily (dark brown).

Type 6: never burns (deeply pigmented dark brown to darkest brown).

  • HOW DOES LASER HAIR REMOVAL WORK?

When passed over the skin surface, the  laser emits light energy which is absorbed by melanin (pigment) in the hair. This targets the hair follicles at the root and destroys them, which prevents regrowth.  The hair can be at various stages in the growth cycle, and therefore it is recommended to have at least 6 sessions to ensure all the follicles are targeted at the right time. If you find a laser hair removal clinic offering laser hair removal that uses less sessions, be wary. The hair growth cycle means that at least 6 sessions are always needed.

    Step 3

    • Start your Laser Hair Removal journey with us at Aesthetica Medical! We feel we have the best laser hair removal Leeds has to offer!

  • HOW MANY SESSIONS WILL I NEED?

On average around 6 sessions, however this can vary depending on the area of the body treated and any medical conditions such as hormonal imbalance. You should need fewer sessions compared to other laser devices thanks to the BLEND X technology, as it combines two laser wavelengths (Alexandrite and ND:YAG) to achieve better results.

Lasers are most effective when the hair shaft is in the anagen phase (growing phase), therefore you will need multiple treatments to significantly reduce unwanted hair growth. Our practitioner will advise you on the number needed and what to expect.

  • WHAT CAN I EXPECT AFTER TREATMENT?

After treatment, the reaction varies from person to person. You may experience some redness and hair follicle swelling directly after treatment, which can be normal. As you progress through the course of your treatments, you will notice less hair growth. We advise applying SPF 50 every day and avoiding sun bathing for 2 weeks.

  • HOW DO I PREPARE FOR TREATMENTS?

Shave 12-24 hours before the treatment to ensure comfort and an accurate treatment. We also advise exfoliating 3 days prior. This will all be explained in your treatment plan. We want you to obtain optimum results and our experienced therapists will do all they can to help you through your laser hair removal treatment process.

Please avoid the application of fake tan for 2 weeks pre-treatment and do not use any other hair removal method except shaving.

  • IS THERE ANYONE IT'S NOT SUITABLE FOR?

There is no reason to say that laser energy is not safe for expectant mothers and those breastfeeding , but the lack of trials means it should not be used. Also those taking certain medications such as Roaccutane for acne, have keloid scars, have or have had skin cancer, or are taking photosensitive medications.

Your practitioner will run through these things at your free consultation to ensure you are suitable. In case of doubt, our lasers meet the criteria to be safely used on all skin tones including darker skin types. They are also suitable for light and dark hair.

  • CAN MEN HAVE HAIR REMOVAL?

Absolutely! Not only women enjoy hair free skin with a laser hair removal treatment. It is a very popular treatment for men regardless of skin and hair type, and is effective for all areas of the body. Common areas for the laser treatment are cheeks, upper arms, full chest, shoulder blades, and stomach.  Men often come into the clinic for facial hair line definition.

  • IS LASER HAIR REMOVAL PAINFUL?

The SPLENDOR X uses a dual cooling system Cryo-Tip and Cryo-Air. The Cryo-Tip is designed to deliver the Cryo-Air air over the laser beam, so it is precise to the treatment area to remove heat from the tissue. This ensures treatments are virtually painless.

  • HOW MUCH DOES LASER HAIR REMOVAL COST?

This depends on the area treated, however we do offer discounted prices on 6 sessions for all body areas. We also offer treatments and entire body packages. Please note price is reflected on the excellent quality of the medical grade laser machine and the treatment provided and feel we have the best prices when this is taken into consideration. We pride ourselves in using the best devices in the world with clinically proven results.

  • IF I HAVE OTHER TREATMENTS, HOW LONG DO I HAVE TO WAIT?

You can have laser hair removal directly before injectable treatments, but must wait 2 weeks after having injectable treatments first, to allow the injection site to heal.

You must wait 2 weeks in between laser hair reduction and HydraFacial or medical grade peels to avoid any adverse reactions. Please let us know if you have had any other skin treatments prior to starting a hair removal session.

  • IF I HAVE OBAGI NU DERM CAN I STILL HAVE THE TREATMENT?

Yes, you can still have treatment but must stop using products with active ingredients such as salicylic acid, tretinoin and benzyl-peroxide 72 hours before and after laser hair removal.

If you are looking for laser hair removal in Leeds get in touch. Our clinic offers a complimentary consultation, highly trained staff, and one of the best lasers on the market.
