What is the Stellar M22?

The Lumenis M22 Stellar is an FDA-cleared system that incorporates three innovative light-based technologies into one. - Intense Pulsed Light (IPL), Q-Switched Nd:YAG, and ResurFX non ablative fractional laser. This makes this device incredibly versatile and allows us to treat a wide range of skin concerns (over 30 in fact!), from pigmentation, scarring and vascular issues to tattoo removal and skin resurfacing, all from one device.

Q-Switched Nd:YAG Laser

The Q-Switched Nd:YAG laser of the M22 focuses on unwanted dark tattoo ink and pigmented lesions. The laser's short pulse of energy is absorbed by the ink pigment or melanin patches, causing the targeted area to break down while leaving surrounding tissue unharmed. Treatments are fully customised according to the type of pigment being addressed on your skin, and multiple sessions may be required for optimal results.

The Lumenis Q-Switch technology enables tailoring of the treatment according to the type of skin, to effectively target the dark pigment and destroy it. Ultrashort laser pulses target the treated area in the skin and break it into small particles that are naturally dissolved by your body; the surrounding skin is left intact.

ResurFX Non-Ablative Fractional Laser

As part of the versatile Lumenis M22 Stellar system, ResurFX is designed to improve skin texture, tone, and overall appearance by stimulating collagen production and promoting skin rejuvenation.

How ResurFX Works

ResurFX utilises a non-ablative fractional laser that creates thousands of microscopic treatment zones in the skin, leaving the surrounding tissue unharmed. The laser energy penetrates deep into the dermis, stimulating the body's natural healing process and encouraging the production of new, healthy collagen. This collagen remodeling process leads to a gradual improvement in skin texture, firmness, and the appearance of various skin concerns.
The ResurFX laser features something called  CoolScan™ technology, which ensures an even and uniform pattern of energy delivery. This is for optimal results and patient comfort. The integrated continuous contact cooling system helps to protect the skin's surface and minimise discomfort during the treatment.

What to Expect During a ResurFX Treatment

 A typical ResurFX treatment session takes between 15 to 30 minutes, depending on the size of the area being treated. Most patients report minimal discomfort during the procedure, describing it as a sensation of warmth or a prickling feeling. Following the treatment, patients may experience mild redness and swelling, which usually subsides between a few hours to a few days.

ResurFX Results and Recovery

 Patients can expect to see immediate improvements in skin texture and tone following a ResurFX treatment. Please bear in mind that optimal results are typically achieved after a series of three to six sessions, spaced four to six weeks apart. As collagen remodeling is a gradual process, the skin will continue to improve for several months following the completion of  the treatment series.
