Sunlight: You mustn't have any sun exposure for a month leading up to the treatment.
Retinoid Products: Stop using any retinoid products 5 days before your appointment.
Antiviral Medication: If you are taking anti-viral medical please mention this during your consultation
Arrival Time: Arrive 45 minutes early for your appointment so they can apply numbing cream to the area being treated.
Hair Removal: If there's any hair in the treatment area, shave it. If you have a beard, please trim it in the area to be treated.
Clean Face: Come to your appointment with your face clean, and without any make-up, moisturisers, or lotions.
Clothing: Wear a button-down shirt to your appointment, or bring one with you, to avoid pulling anything over your face or body after the treatment.
Straight After: Immediately after the treatment, use a plain moisturiser cream. Use cold compresses or cold (not frozen) gel packs to help with any heat sensation you might have.
First Few Days: Don't wear any make-up for the first two days. Keep gently cleansing and moisturising over the next few days. Once the dry skin starts to flake off, let it heal naturally. Don't scrub, rub, or use exfoliants.
First Week: Keep the treated area clean. Avoid smoking, drinking too much alcohol, excessive exercise, sweating a lot, swimming, yoga, and exposing your skin to heat and sun.
Skincare Products: For the first week, all your skincare products should be non-irritating and non-clogging.
No Irritating Products: Your skin will be sensitive for at least the first week after treatment. Avoid using any products that could irritate it for a minimum of 5 days. This includes bleaching creams, abrasive scrubs, toners, or anything containing glycolic acid or retinoids (like Retin-A, tretinoin). Read the labels carefully. You can go back to using retinoids after 5 full days, as long as the area is no longer flaking, red, or irritated.
Normal Skincare: Once all the dry skin has flaked off and your skin is completely healed, you can go back to using your normal skincare and make-up, as long as they don't bother you. A mineral-based make-up is recommended.
Sunscreen: Start using sunscreen straight after the treatment and keep using it to prevent sun damage. It should offer broad-spectrum protection (UVA and UVB) and have an SPF of 30 or higher. Apply it 20 minutes before you go outside, and reapply every 2 hours. If you have to be in direct sun, wear a hat and clothing that covers the treated area. Being diligent with sunscreen can lower the risk of the laser causing darker skin patches (hyperpigmentation).
Moisturiser: Peeling and flaking is normal. The moisturiser you use should be non-irritating and non-clogging, otherwise, you might get spots. You can use moisturisers that also have SPF30+ in them instead of using two separate products. Reapply whenever your skin feels dry.
