WHAT IS ROSACEA?

Rosacea is classed as a chronic, long-term skin condition that will mostly affect the facial area. It is characterised by episodes of flushing and persistent redness, particularly on the cheeks, nose, forehead, and chin. As well as the redness element, rosacea can sometimes cause visible blood vessels, swelling, and acne-like bumps that may be filled with pus. Unlike acne, rosacea does not involve blackheads, and its symptoms can be more persistent and widespread.

CAUSES OF
ROSACEA

Rosacea is one of those conditions that, currently, does not have an exact cause attributed to it. Research has indicated links to gut bacteria, skin organisms, immune system malfunction, neurovascular system irregularities and genetic predisposition, but no clear cause has been definitavely found. Separate to causes we also have triggers, which exacerbate rosacea. Although, the line between cause and trigger is often blurred. There are many known triggers, triggers vary from patient to patient, and patients may have more than one trigger. We list all the possible triggers below, divided into categories

Rosacea Trigger Advice

Managing rosacea effectively involves identifying and avoiding triggers that can cause flare-ups. Keeping a rosacea diary is the best way to track and pinpoint these triggers. Here’s how you can maintain a rosacea diary and some advice on common triggers:

Rosacea Diary
How to Keep a Rosacea Diary:
Daily Entries: Each day, note the condition of your skin, rating the severity of redness, bumps, and other symptoms on a scale of 1 to 10.
Food and Drink: Record everything you eat and drink, including meal times. Pay special attention to spicy foods, hot drinks and alcohol.
Environment: Note the weather conditions, temperature, and the amount of sun you get each day.
Activities: List daily activities, especially those involving physical exertion, stress, or exposure to heat.
Skincare Products: Document all skincare products and cosmetics you use, noting any new additions to your routine.
Emotional State: Record your stress levels and any significant emotional events, as stress can be a trigger. Take note of your feelings.

Rosacea Treatment Options

Any clinic looking to help patients with their rosacea should offer more than one treatment option for their patients. The reason for this is because not all treatments will work for all patients, and every patient's rosacea is different.  At Aesthetica Medical we have four viable methods to treat rosacea, giving you a better chance of success. We may suggest one, or a combination of therapies.

Lumenis M22

We now have the brilliant Lumenis M22 device with ResurFX and IPL attachments. The IPL is the one we use for rosacea treatment. IPL is an abbreviation for intense pulsed light. The intense pulsed light is used to alleviate any redness, uneven skin tone, spots and tattoo removal. IPL for rosacea is a gentle and efficient method to gradually clear your skin of the signs of rosacea.

LED Light Therapy

Dermalux LED phototherapy, a gentle yet at the same time powerful, skin treatment that requires no recovery time. This approach uses specific light wavelengths to stimulate your skin's natural healing and renewal processes. It's particularly effective for managing Rosacea symptoms and has shown remarkable results in treating various skin conditions, including acne,  psoriasis and eczema.

The treatment employs three distinct light spectrums, each offering unique benefits:

Red Light: Calms inflammation, diminishes fine lines, boosts skin hydration, refines pore size, and enhances overall skin radiance.

Blue Light: Acts as a potent antibacterial agent, effectively managing acne without causing irritation. It also helps regulate oil production and serves as a safe alternative for treating eczema, psoriasis, and dermatitis.

Near-Infrared Light: Alleviates discomfort and inflammation, improves the appearance of scars, promotes skin firmness, and helps even out skin tone by reducing pigmentation.

For optimal results, we combine all three light therapies in a single session, allowing us to address multiple skin concerns simultaneously and achieve faster, more pronounced improvements.

Chemical Peels

We offer a ranges of chemical including those by Obagi peels. Their aim is exfoliate the skin and stimulate the growth of new and healthy skin cells.

Skin care and medication

Depending on the type and extent of your rosacea we may offer one or more recommendations from our skincare range. Medication, including topical creams may also be offered. We have many safe and effect options here in clinic.

We prioritise your skin's long-term health, not just quick fixes. Our approach at Aesthetica Medical combines effective treatments with practical lifestyle guidance, such as consistent sunscreen application and minimising sun exposure. Addressing both current symptoms and prevention, we aim to manage rosacea effectively, reduce flare-ups, and help you maintain clearer, healthier skin for years to come.
